Great resource

I bought the trauma chapter years ago, but the beauty of nursing is being able to change specialties! So I needed the fast facts for IABP now that I work in the CICU

My only negative feedback is font/print is very small.Too small in my opinion I have to wear cheaters when reading or get headache from eye strain.

A Specialty chapter, complete with index tab, to add to your Fast Facts book.

IABP describes intra-aortic balloon insertion, pump set-up, and initiation of this life sustaining device.

Timing the balloon inflation/deflation to the cardiac cycle is described in detail, including illustrations of arterial pressure waveforms that reveal early inflation or deflation, and late inflation or deflation, any of which can diminish the positive effects of pumping and may also cause patient harm.

Fourteen problems that may be encountered during pumping are described and interventions outlined.

Weaning the patient from IABP and the procedure of balloon removal complete the chapter.
